Qarshi University (QU) ((ウルドゥー語:قرشی یونیورسٹی)) is a private research university in Lahore, Pakistan. University is a project of ''Qarshi Foundation'' established in May 2011. It is located on the Canal Bank Road near Thokar Niaz Beg. Objectives and Scope Keeping in view the growing demand for Commerce graduates Qarshi University decided to launch a B.Com (Hons.) program with the intentions of providing the graduates with a vision that will transcend geographic and cultural boundaries. This system grew over the years. In spite of lack of official patronage, Eastern / Unani tibb remained popular with the masses and is still so. After independence, a lot of resources have been allocated and utilized for the various curative, preventive and promotive activities and programs of National Health Care System. Unfortunately the overall health care level and the national health indicators remained poor and very dismal. Allocation of more funds did not prove a simple solution for the ills of National Health. The Eastern Medical Education aims at producing competent tibbi physicians of good knowledge. Such physicians with practical training based on Tibbi fundamentals and scientific knowledge of modern diagnostics will be able to take up responsibilities in health services. Pakistan is not the only country teaching such courses. Many developed countries have adopted the concept of alternative medicine. In Japan, it is called ‘Kampo’. They have a society that exceeds more than 10,000 members. In India and China, they have specialized hospitals where patients are treated with herbal medicines as well. In this situation, the quest for an alternative system of medicine always remained in the minds of health specialists. As a result of continuous efforts, the National Council for Tibb (NCT) a regulatory and registration authority for Hakeems of Eastern Medicine was established. NCT helped in improving tibbi medicine and the registration of tibbi practitioners. The efforts of Shifa-ul-Mulk Hk Muhammad Hassan Qarshi and Hk Muhammad Saeed Shaheed to train competent and enlightened tibbi physicians finally bore fruit. These efforts resulted in a 5 year degree course in Eastern Medicine which was finally approved by Higher Education Commission in 2004. The objective behind this program is to prepare batches of knowledgeable and committed Tabibs who could become agents of change by fulfilling healthcare needs of the masses based upon centuries old wisdom and expression of tibb. Qarshi Foundation (QF) is a well known philanthropic organization, primarily engaged in Health, Education and Environment Protection activities in the country. Qarshi University (QU) is the latest gift of QF in nation building programs. The Punjab Assembly has passed QU Act 2011 in May, 2011 and granted charter of University to impart education in multiple subjects including Eastern Medicine as one the most important subjects. Scope It is worthwhile to note that the number of tibbi manufacturing units in the country is more than 400. They are producing and marketing thousands of unani products in the market. Apart from that hundreds of Tibbi Clinics / Matabs / Dispensaries, both in public and private sectors, are functional. Moreover, about 3 dozen Tibbiya Colleges are functional in the country. Therefore the need for qualified and competent Tibbi physician / hukama is fast increasing. Following are some of the areas where job opportunities exist: General Practice / Private Practice: Set up his / her private / clinic as Registered Tibbi Practitioner and authorized to prescribe Tibbi Medicine. Teaching Career: Appointed as Instructor and Teacher in Tibbi institutions, Deptts. of Eastern Medicine etc. Appointed as Registered Tibbi Practitioner in any private institution as a recognized tibbi practitioner. Appointed as a scientific officer, research officer, in quality assurance, production etc. in tibbi pharma industry, marketing area of tibbi pharmaceutical industry as Sales officer, Product Promotion Officer etc. and as Food & Nutrition Education Officer, Food Supervisor, Food Inspector in Govt., Semi Govt., and Private sectors. Objectives of the Department Train tibbi graduates capable of treating ailing persons with the help of modern diagnostic techniques and with time tested remedies of Eastern Medicine. (Tibb-e-Unani) Prepare Tibbi clinicians to demonstrate professional skills through standard curative, preventive and promotive interventions. Produce qualified hukama to understand temperament, body humors, disease process and to treat the health problems of patients with confidence and kindness. Integrate basic medical knowledge with diagnostic skills and tibbi therapeutics & pharmacognosy. Plan and carry out research in Eastern Medicine aimed at health promoting and disease curing, based on principles of tibb. Support National Health System by assisting / supervising / contributing in the areas of Safe Food & Nutrition, Maternal Child Health, Health Education, Family Planning, Sanitation, Safe Water and Clean Environment. Produce qualified graduates with knowledge of Eastern Medicine in tandem with latest technologies for diagnosis and modern methods of treatment and healthcare. Examination System Semester System of Examination as per policy of Qarshi University. Clinical Training The clinical training of Bachelor of Eastern Medicine students starts from 2nd year onwards at Qarshi Hospital, and Qarshi Foundation Dispensaries and clinics. Students acquire clinical skills under the guidance of experienced Hakeems and specialists and learn to deal with different kinds of patients.
